Phoenix Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor Project
Sub-project:
Sphygmochron.org Autogenic Training Collaboration Idea

Project Description

This page describes a possible project to collaborate with a (possibly local) producer of meditation, yoga, or hypnosis materials to produce and sell Autogenic Training materials that benefit some people with mild hypertension.  The idea is that the newly-developed materials would combine traditional autogenic or other relaxation training with instructions to use the Sphygmochron.org website and chronobiological analysis (instead of the usual imprecise ad-hoc BP measurements) to monitor the results.

Background

I own some  "self-hypnosis" and "relaxation" cassette tapes that I recognize as very similar to Yoshihiko's suggested Autogenic Training procedure.  It makes me think that there's a possible collaborative project here.  There's a number of companies that produce such tapes (now CDs or DVDs) for the market.  I don't know if they're really effective or not, and almost certainly their marketing is misleading to some number of people.  For our purpose, it may not really matter.

Would it make sense to suggest to them a joint project to have them produce "autogenic training tapes" along the lines of Yoshihiko's procedure specifically to reduce/control blood pressure, along with instructions to measure blood pressure variability and submit data to the sphygmochron web site?  Some careful thinking would be needed before agreeing to such a joint venture, but there would be some advantages to us, such as reaching a market of open-minded people and the use of the producer's existing marketing mechanism, in return for which they would get a new product idea with some credibility behind it.
